Material & Build
Metal-iron is the material we work in across the whole hearth range, and this frame follows the same approach: straight rails, simple joints and a structure with nothing to trap ash or make the rack awkward to wipe down. It is supplied as a custom black steel log rack, so the colour is not fixed to the black you see in the photographs — tell us the shade you need and we will work from the reference you send, whether that is a swatch, a paint chip or an existing product. Black is our standard finish because it hides everyday hearth dust and settles well against stone, brick and timber. Because the frame is metal, it will not absorb ash or hold a smoky smell the way a timber rack can.

Q1. How much firewood does this rack hold?
We do not quote a fixed cubic capacity, because how much fits depends on how the logs are cut and how tightly they are stacked. This is a large-capacity single stack rather than a decorative handful of logs. Tell us the log size you usually sell or burn and we will confirm how it loads.

Q2. Will the rack work outdoors on an open deck or patio?
It is built for cabin interiors, hearths and stove corners. If you plan to keep it on an open deck or patio, mention it with your enquiry — constant damp and an exposed position affect any metal finish, and we will tell you honestly what we can and cannot promise for that setting.

Q3. How should we look after the black finish?
Dust the frame with a dry cloth and wipe it with a barely damp one when the hearth gets smoky; that is all normal indoor use needs. Empty the rack before cleaning behind it, and keep abrasive pads away from the finish. If logs come in damp, let the rack and the wood dry out in a ventilated room before loading up again.

Q4. Does the rack need to be fixed to a wall?
For normal hearth use the rack simply stands in place and needs no wall fixing. If it will sit somewhere people brush past it, tell us and we will talk through how to position it so the stack stays put.

Q5. How does this rack compare with your two-tier designs?
This one is a single open stack: easy to load, easy to see how much wood is left, and the right scale for a cabin hearth. Our two-tier and corner formats divide the same job across two levels for rooms where floor space is short. Tell us the footprint you are working with and we will say which format suits the space.

Q6. What should we send with a custom request?
Send a picture, drawing or sample of the design you have in mind, the colour you need, and a note on where the rack will be used. Every custom black steel log rack is built against that reference, so the clearer the brief, the sooner we can confirm the build and finish with you.
